Your vessel of healing
COOLSCULPTING® AT VITALSHIP NATUROPATIC
CoolSculpting is an amazing procedure which freezes fat with non-surgical methods. This FDA-cleared treatment is perfect for patients who experience stubborn fat and struggle to lose fat with traditional dieting and exercise. The results are proven, noticeable, and incredibly long-lasting.
Depending on your individual case, complementary treatment protocols will be implemented along with your CoolSculpting treatment for more effective and long-lasting outcomes. This includes, as a basis, custom diet and lifestyle plans, and individualized treatments for other conditions you may have such as hormone imbalance.
What kind of results can I expect from CoolSculpting®?
There is little to no recovery time after a CoolSculpting procedure. Most people are approved to resume normal day-to-day activity immediately after. In some cases, some minor redness or soreness may occur in the area treated, but all minor side effects typically subside within a few weeks.
Patients may begin to see an improvement in the treated area a few weeks after their treatment, but it may take up to four months before they enjoy their full and final results. While every patient is different, most patients benefit from one to three sessions for each area of concern.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does CoolSculpting® feel like?
As the cooling begins during the first few minutes, you will feel minimal discomfort, slight pressure, and intense cold. This soon dissipates. During treatment, many people read, watch videos, work on their laptop, or even take a nap.
Q: How much does CoolSculpting® cost?
Because everyone has different needs when it comes to CoolSculpting®, the cost is different for everyone. During your complimentary consultation, a consultant will work with you to personalize a treatment plan that fits your needs.
Q: How much of a decrease in fat cells does CoolSculpting® provide?
With each session you are able to decrease the number of treated fat cells by about 20%. Each additional treatment further enhances your results, ridding you of an additional 20% of the treated fat cells per session. With CoolSculpting® at VitalShip, it’s easy to sit back, relax and reduce that stubborn fat.
Q: When will I see CoolSculpting® results?
You may start to see changes as quickly as four weeks after your treatment and will experience the most dramatic results after two months, but your body continues flushing out fat cells for up to six months after treatment. It also depends on the food you eat, the amount of exercise you incorporate, and how you’re doing holistically. These three pillars of the body will be things we discuss during your consult.
How was CoolSculpting Developed?
CoolSculpting is a science technology called Cryolipolysis, and was discovered by doctor Dieter Manstein, Ph.D., MD, and R.Rox Anderson, MD. These physicians are from the Wellman Center for Photomedicine located at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. This facility is a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School.
Drs. Anderson and Manstein, along with their team organized research that showed under carefully monitored laboratory conditions, subcutaneous fat cells are more vulnerable than tissues surrounding them to cold temperatures. In the beginning, it was decided that long term, controlled, cooling of local tissue could reduce selected fat cells along with subsequent loss of subcutaneous fat and not cause damage to the overlying skin. The discovery of this process is called, ‘selective cryolysis’ and brought us to the development of a patented, FDA approved, technology, now known as the non-invasive CoolSculpting treatment.
How is the Cooling Treatment Delivered to the Fat Cells?
The process and treatment of CoolSculpting consist of a selection of tissue-cooling through non-invasive applicators that are controlled with an accurately engineered supervised system. During the CoolSculpting procedure, your doctor will attach an applicator to your targeted area and extract energy from the fat tissue underneath. With the use of a specially designed vacuum applicator cup, which will be gently placed between two cooling panels, heat is extracted which has been determined by the selected procedure profile. There are sensors embedded inside the applicator monitor, which is attached to your skin, so the procedure is performed consistently and uniformly.
The sensors are connected to a control console which will continuously monitor and control the cooling throughout the entire procedure. These sensors send feedback to your doctor. If anything needs changing or adjusting, an alert is sent to your doctor to inform them of any device that needs attention and of your condition, should you need anything during the treatment. When the procedure is complete, your doctor is notified through this same paging system.
How Do I Know if the CoolSculpting Procedure is for Me?
CoolSculpting is designed for those who want to lose fat in targeted areas. It is different from weight-loss surgery, or gastric bypass, and it is not a weight-loss solution. This procedure is not designed to work on people who are considered obese. If you are the right candidate for CoolSculpting, you will have bulges in areas you don’t want them. The CoolSculpting procedure is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction. There are five questions generally asked to determine whether or not you are the right candidate:
- Where do you want to redefine your body- flank (love handles), outer thighs, abdomen, inner thighs, chin, or upper arms?
- Have you ever undergone a cosmetic procedure previously to change or improve your looks?
- Are you comfortable having a non-surgical fat reduction procedure?
- Are you within thirty pounds of your ideal weight, but have areas of fat you consider excess?
When you have answered these questions, you should then consult with a CoolSculpting provider at Fat Freeze Sculpting who will review your answers and physical shape to determine the treatment right for you.
How Long are the CoolSculpting Treatments, and How Many Will I Need?
Each patient sits down with an experienced physician in CoolSculpting technology at Fat Freeze Sculpting to create an individual treatment plan. This plan is designed for your specific goals, and the length of the treatments will depend on your number of areas you are seeking treatment for in one visit. With CoolSculpting technology now available, you can be treated from thirty-five to sixty minutes, unless you are having more than one treatment during your office visit.
Some clinics have more than one system and applicators, so you may be able to have multiple areas treated at one time. If more treatments are necessary, you can discuss them with your physician at Fat Freeze Sculpting.
What Results can I Expect from CoolSculpting Treatments?
The CoolSculpting treatment will provide you measurable, noticeable fat reduction, which has been proven in clinical studies. In properly chosen patients, this reduction has occurred over a two to four month time period. Some patients require additional procedures after the initial one has been performed to receive an even more significant fat reduction.
What Happens After I’ve had a CoolSculpting Procedure?
After your CoolSculpting procedure, you will schedule a follow-up assessment with your Fat Freeze Sculpting specialist to review your results and decide if there are any additional treatments needed. You will want to try and maintain a healthier lifestyle; however, there are no special diets required. Fat Freeze Sculpting wants you to be happy with your results, and a healthy body is a happy body.
How Long will the Results Last after the CoolSculpting Procedure?
Current studies show that patients are experiencing fat layer reduction results as much as six months after their treatment. At this time, there are no longer-term studies available. The science behind CoolSculpting technology shows that when fat cells are exposed to cooling, it causes them to begin a natural process of removal.
This removal gradually reduces the thickness of the fat layer. The fat cells in your body are treated and will then gently and slowly be eliminated from your body through your body’s normal metabolism process, just as the fat from the foods you eat. It is expected that the fat cells eliminated from your body through CoolSculpting technology will last as long as fat cells removed through liposuction or other invasive procedures.
What are all the Areas I can Reduce Fat from My Body?
The FDA has cleared the CoolSculpting treatment in the United States for the visible fat bulges in the submental area, flank, and abdomen, underneath the butt area, along the bra area, the upper arm, and under the chin.
China allows for the cryolipolysis system to be used in the abdomen and flank area for fat layer reduction.
The CoolSculpting procedure in Taiwan has been cleared for removing fat bulges in the abdomen, thigh, and flank.
These are not the only countries performing these procedures, but these are the only areas currently approved for fat bulge reduction.
Can I Lose the Bulge Under My Chin?
The CoolSculpting treatment is able to treat fat bulges under your jaw (submandibular) and chin (submental). You can have the fat frozen away from your chin area and remove the double chin in the same easy and tolerable manner as any other CoolSculpting treatment. The FDA has approved affecting the appearance in your lax tissue with the use of lax tissue submental treatments.
Patients who have used CoolSculpting to remove a double chin and improve the contour of their necks have seen noticeable improvements in just one to two visits. There is no downtime with these treatments, so you will not miss out on any daily activities.
What Happens to the Fat that is Eliminated through CoolSculpting?
Once your fat cells are treated through CoolSculpting, they are frozen and will then die. The dead cells will be naturally eliminated from your body just as the fat is from the foods you eat.
How Does it Feel to have a CoolSculpting Treatment? Does it Hurt?
Within a few minutes after your treatment begins, you will experience intense cold. This sensation soon disappears. There are different applicators for the different areas of your body, but with some, you will feel a suction sensation when they are applied.
The area on your body that is being treated will become numb in about five to ten minutes while the treatment is performed. During the process, many patients sit comfortably and read a book, watch a TV show, watch videos, complete work on a laptop, and some even take a nap while the CoolSculpting procedure is being done.
After the treatment, you might feel a bit of tingling in the area where fat was taken, but it will be massaged for about two to three minutes to help relieve the tingling. There are no long-term effects, and patients generally return to work or normal activities right after their appointment. This is a break-down of what to expect with the treatment of CoolSculpting:
Getting Prepped
Your physician at Fat Freeze Sculpting will place a clear gel pad on your treatment area. This pad will create a barrier between your skin and the cooling panel. Trials conducted have shown that CoolSculpting is a safe and effective way to reduce fat in specific areas.
How the Procedure Starts
When the procedure begins, you will experience a slight sucking sensation from the applicator attached to your body. You may also experience sensations of tugging, pulling, intense cold, tingling, stinging, mild pinching, cramping, and some aching at the treatment site. The treatment area will become numb, and these sensations will subside.
Relax and Let the Process Work
As the treatment starts, you can relax and allow the CoolSculpting to do the work. You are able to answer your emails, chat on your phone, or read a book. Once the treatment is finished, your physician at Fat Freeze Sculpting will perform a brief massage on the treated area. The massage will break up the treated fat cells and help the fat reduction. You will have little or no downtime after the procedure. For some areas, you might need more than one treatment. Speak with your physician at Fat Freeze Sculpting to discuss what your particular needs will need.
Is CoolSculpting a Safe Procedure?
The CoolSculpting procedure is FDA approved and has been cleared as a safe treatment to reduce and eliminate fat bulges. It has been rated the number one non-invasive treatment for fat reduction and has been approved to freeze the fat from nine different treatment areas on your body. CoolSculpting technology has been approved since 2010 when it received approval to remove love handles from patients flank.
2012
In 2012, not long after receiving FDA approval for removing fat from the flank, CoolSculpting was cleared as a popular treatment to remove fat from the abdomen or belly fat.
2014
CoolSculpting was approved to remove fat from the thigh areas. Doctors could now perform the fat reduction in the inner and outer thigh areas.
2015
FDA approved the CoolSculpting treatment for reducing fat from the chin or submental area. This procedure removes a double chin from patients.
2016
Fat reduction from the small areas on your back along the bra line, as well as back fat and the fat under the butt was cleared. FDA clearance was also received to treat the fat area under the arms.
2018
Clearance by the FDA was received to treat the submandibular area, or the area right below the jawline.
When patients ask if this is a ‘safe’ procedure, they are told of the more than seven million CoolSculpting treatments that have been done worldwide. Millions of treatments have been completed through this FDA cleared, advanced technology. Results have been analyzed in controlled, clinical studies. This treatment has also been published in several clinical publications as an approved fat reduction treatment. This procedure is a reliable and safe way for you to get rid of unwanted fat.
What does Non-Invasive Mean?
Unlike invasive surgical procedures such as liposuction, non-invasive is a treatment without needles and no surgery. CoolSculpting is non-invasive and means you will experience little or no downtime. CoolSculpting, or cryolipolysis, was discovered by scientists who found that our fat cells are hypersensitive to cold. Fat cells are found to be much more sensitive to cold than our skin, muscles, or nerves.
Through their research, the scientists found that when using precise cold temperatures in a controlled setting, they can freeze fat and initiate fat cell death. When the cells die, they are expelled from your body through a natural process. The treatment works in this manner:
The fat cells are frozen to just above the freezing point.
Crystals form inside the fat cells causing the cells to die.
As the cells die, they collapse, and the natural inflammatory process uses the lymphatic system to remove the dead cells.
The inflammatory process is natural and can take your body up to four months after the treatment to remove all the dead fat cells and for you to see signs of success in reducing your fat layer.
Should I Have CoolSculpting?
With the advanced technology used in CoolSculpting, there is no reason you should have to live with stubborn fat that has created a double chin, love handles, a muffin top, or other bulges of fat on your body. If you are considering the removal of unwanted fat on your body, talk to the specialists at Fat Freeze Sculpting to find the solution that works best for your body.
Can Anyone Have a CoolSculpting Procedure?
CoolSculpting is not for everyone. If you suffer from:
- Cryoglobulinemia -a group of diseases that damage and inflame the blood vessels throughout the body
- Cold agglutinin disease- rare autoimmune hemolytic anemia where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys its own red blood cells
- Paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria- a subtype of autoimmune hemolytic anemia caused by the existence of cold-reacting autoantibodies in the blood
Then you should not seek this treatment. CoolSculpting technology is also not recommended for those considered obese. Check with your physician at Fat Freeze Sculpting to ensure this procedure is right for you.
What Side Effects Can I Expect from the CoolSculpting Treatment?
After a CoolSculpting treatment, you may experience temporary side effects. These effects generally only persist for a day or two; in some cases, they have extended to weeks:
- Immediately following your procedure, you may experience firmness or redness in the area treated. There may be mild bruising or transient blanching of your skin in the treatment area along with a slight stinging or tingling.
- One to two weeks following treatment, you may experience swelling, bruising, or redness in the treated area. There may be tenderness, an aching sensation or cramping, along with itching, skin sensitivity, numbness or tingling in the area. The sensation of feeling numb in the area treated has been reported to last several weeks after a procedure. If you have had your submental area treated, you may notice a fullness sensation in the back of your throat.
- Additional side effects with the submental area treatments include your hypoglossal nerve may cause your tongue to deviate after the cold exposure. Your marginal mandibular nerve can also cause your lower lip to feel weak from the exposure to the cold. You may also experience dry mouth from the cold exposure to your submental area as your saliva production may decrease.
- Other possible side effects include:
Late-onset pain which can last several days after your treatment, but resides typically within several weeks.
Frostbite can occur during the treatment but is typically resolved without any additional side effects when proper care is taken to treat.
Darkening of the skin or hyperpigmentation can occur after the procedure but typically resolves itself spontaneously.
Vasovagal symptoms such as lightheadedness, dizziness, sweating, nausea or flushing may occur right away treatment but typically resolves itself soon after as this procedure does not usually cause any downtime with a patient’s normal daily activities.
Subcutaneous induration, a generalized hardness or discretion from the nodules in the treatment area may develop after the procedure. This symptom may cause some discomfort or pain.
Are There Special Supplements I need or Diets I Will have to Follow after Treatment?
There are no special supplements required after having a CoolSculpting treatment. This procedure is not an exercise or diet program and requires no changes to your lifestyle habits. Many patients have been motivated by the results and implemented a change to care for themselves more after treatments, but it is not required.
What Happens if I Gain Weight After My CoolSculpting Treatment?
For most people who see the results of their CoolSculpting treatment, it motivates them to stay closer to their ideal body weight. Some do gain weight; however, it is often gained evenly over the body, not just in the areas that have been treated.
Understanding fat reduction versus weight loss:
Weight loss and fat reduction are two very different things. When you lose weight, it does not mean you will gain a more sculpted appearance; this is the benefit CoolSculpting offers. Your fat cell numbers do not change much from when you were a child or adolescent. What happens to those fat cells when you begin to gain weight is they expand, which is what causes your hips, waistline, chin, and thighs to expand. If you eat healthily and regularly exercise, you can shrink those fat cells to gain a trimmer, slimmer shape. When you stop those healthy habits, the cells expand again, giving you those unwanted bulges.
How Much Does a CoolSculpting Procedure Cost?
CoolSculpting procedure costs vary from patient to patient depending on the area of concern you have, and how many treatments you will need. To meet individual goals, most patients choose to receive treatments on multiple areas of their body. Typically the cost of CoolSculpting treatment runs between $2,000 and $4,000 depending on the number of areas you choose to treat.
How CoolSculpting® Treatments Work
CoolSculpting uses a procedure known as cryolipolysis. It works by placing a roll of fat into two panels that cool the fat to a freezing temperature.
A 2009 studyTrusted Source looked at the clinical efficacy of cryolipolysis. The researchers found that cryolipolysis reduced the treated fat layer by as much as 25 percent. The results were still present six months after the treatment. Frozen, dead fat cells are excreted out of the body through the liver within several weeks of treatment, revealing full results of fat loss within three months.
Some people who do CoolSculpting opt to treat several parts of the body, usually:
- Thighs
- Lower Back
- Belly
- Sides
It can also reduce the appearance of cellulite on the legs, buttocks, and arms. Some people also use it to reduce excess fat underneath the chin.
It takes an hour to treat each targeted body part. Treating more body parts requires more CoolSculpting treatments to see results. Larger body parts may also require more treatments than smaller body parts.
